The 1976 Minnesota Vikings team posted an 11-2-1 regular season record on their way to the franchise’s last Super Bowl appearance.

On their way to the Big Game, the Vikings first had to defeat the Washington Redskins in the NFC Divisional Playoff game. The game was played on Sunday, December 18, 1976 at Metropolitan Stadium in Blooomington, Minnesota where the Mall of America now sits.

The Vikings controlled the game on the ground, with Chuck Foreman scoring two touchdowns and eating up 105 yards on 20 carries. Brent McClanahan, his backfield mate, ran for another 10 yards.

Quarterback Fran Tarkenton threw for 170 yards on 12 completions that included two touchdowns to wide receiver Sammy White and one to tight end Stu Voigt.

After this victory, the Vikings moved to a 24-13 NFC Championship victory over the Los Angeles Rams before losing to the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XI.
