CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR?
I’ve been complaining about the poor play of our safeties since forever so now I get a chance to see a new face in, you’d think I’d be ecstatic, right?
We’ll see.
Looks like Husein Abdullah will start at safety in place of Tyrell Johnson and Jamarca Sanford.
That wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. I was thinking more like Sanford would be starting.
Sanford has been listed on the injury report with an ankle injury but it wasn’t real clear from Judd Zulgad and Chip Scoggins‘ report if Abdulla’s likely start was due to injuries or his play.
This would be Abdullah’s first start at safety.
A NICKLE FOR SHEREL?
There’s been talk of putting Abdulla at nickle when the Saints go four-wide but he’s starting at safety, he’s obviously not going to play two positions simultaneously.
Brad Childress and Leslie Frazier have also said there’s an outside chance Cedric Griffin could play some corner. You gotta think that’s simply a smokescreen, though, coming as it does a mere seven months since he tore his left ACL.
Short of picking up someone off the street or making a trade a day before the game (unless that player’s name is Benny Sapp), it looks like rookie and former Golden Gopher Marcus Sherel‘s will be activated from the practice squad and will almost certainly see some action.
That would make two mouth-watering targets for Drew Brees to exploit in the secondary…three if you count Madieu Williams.
WATCH. OUT.
If Ray Edwards pick up where he left off in the NFC Championship game? Pfffft. It’s over. The dude was unstoppable.
THE CURSE
Remember: Drew Brees is on the cover of Madden 11 this year. Can you say curse?
UNLOVED
Is Randy Moss. The insanely talented former Vikings receiver is not feeling the love on the east coast. He kinda feels unwanted because the Patriots are not taking care of him in the final year of his contract.
We love you, Randy. We always have. Certainly for what you did on the field as a Viking but almost as much for the faux moon of Packers fans that got Joe Buck‘s undies all up in a bunch.
New England could use some help along the D-line. I’m just sayin’…Brad? Ziggy?
NOT SO FAST
Thank you to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert for pointing out that Darren Sharper‘s blitzes during the NFC Championship game were not very effective, as Sports Illustrated’s skunk-haired Peter King would have you believe.

The Power Ranking position ESPN gives Your Minnesota Vikings, two positions below the Green Bay Packers. Blame Kevin Seifert.
FAKE PREVIEW
The Onion has published their season previews and here’s what they have to say about the Vikings:
- Showing off his youthful exuberance, 40-year-old Brett Favre is still out there running the media around like a little kid, and
- Except for Matt, John, and Rick, who are pretty great guys, Vikings fans are pretty much ignorant, petulant bandwagoners, and
- The Vikings still have many unanswered questions in the secondary, such as “What’s a cornerback?” and “Who was supposed to cover that guy?”
