The 1970 NFC Divisional Playoff Game was the Vikings’ first playoff matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. It took place on December 27, 1970 at Metropolitan Stadium.
The 12-3 Vikings team was built on the famed Purple People Eaters defense while the 49ers strength was on the offensive side of the ball, featuring MVP quarterback John Brodie.
For the Vikings, Hall of Fame safety Paul Krause returned a fumble for a touchdown and quarterback Gary Cuozzo hit wide receiver Gene Washington for a score. But it was not enough to overcome the 49ers 17 points.
