We’ve seen it before. We’ll no doubt see it again. But there’s no end to the joy of breaking down the beauty of a Cordarrelle Patterson touchdown play.
Patterson was the beneficiary of a bunch of superb blocks on the play but also used his speed, quickness, strength and vision to weave his way 67 yards down field through six tackle attempts on his way to the end zone.

Step 1: The Vikings line up in a 2-TE, 2-WR set. Cordarrelle Patterson lines up wide, then goes in motion…
Step 2: …and lines up in the I-Formation behind Matt Asiata
Step 3: To take a pitch from Matt Cassel
Step 4: And follow his lead-blocker
Step 5: To take advantage of the lane created by Brandon Fusco, Kyle Rudolph and be patient while…
Step 6: …Rudolph and Asiata seal their men so Patterson can
Step 7: Shoot the gap and…
Step 8: (Please note Adam Thielen entering your picture from the left; it’s important later)
Step 9: …use his speed to…
Step 10: Split the defenders and…
Step 11: …break some tackles, then
Step 12: Cut back inside…
Step 13: Then cut back again, breaking a tackle and
Step 14: Get some help from Thielen, who gets in the way of a pursuing defender
Step 15: Then break one final tackle before falling into the end zone for the score!
