Daily Chat: Brett Favre Allegations

FAVRE ALLEGATIONS

[ad#300x250inpost]

I don’t want to write about this because I like talking about football, not people’s sex lives but I would be negligent if I did not mention that the NFL is looking into allegations that Brett Favre was involved in “sexting” with an in-house reporter during his stay with the Jets.

The website Deadspin.com has published audio that they say are voice mail messages from Favre to Jenn Sterger along with photos that the site says are of Favre’s junk.

Though the voice mail messages sure sound like Favre, they don’t mention Sterger by name, and, in and of themselves, really prove nothing. Nor do the photos, for obvious reasons.

Deadspin.com is not saying how or from whom they obtained the content and has acknowledge paying for the photos and audio files. Sterger herself has had no comment on the matter.

Christopher Gates at the Daily Norseman points out some curious timing issues:

  • This incident allegedly took place to years ago though is only now seeing the light of day
  • The Vikings play the Jets on Monday
  • Jenn Sterger has a photo spread coming up in this month’s issue of Maxim magazine

Deadspin.com clearly has an interest in boosting their visibility, page views, ad sales, etc. The New York media has a juicy storyline with which they can run, drive viewership, sell newspapers, and exact revenge on Favre for his relatively poor performance with the Jets.

Look, I’m a Vikings fan. I don’t want this to be true because I want the Vikings to succeed.

If it’s true, it’s true and that’s sad. But it would hardly be surprising that a superstar professional athlete–who, whether they want them or not, have groupies–would turn out to have a sordid side.

COOK OUT…AGAIN
Throw up your hands time. Cornerback Chris Cook is out again with a torn meniscus…again. This time, though, the tear is in his left knee, Judd Zulgad reports.

Thankfully, we’ve got Cedric Griffin back so Lito Sheppard should play the nickleback position Cook would’ve filled against the Jets.

No word yet on whether Cook will have surgery to repair the tear nor on how long he might be out.

THE WALKING WOUNDED
The injury reports for the Jets and the Vikings:

Jets: Defensive end Shaun Ellis (knee), limited on Thursday and Friday; tackle Wayne Hunter (shin), limited on Thursday and Friday; center Nick Mangold (shoulder), limited on Thursday and Friday; cornerback Darrell Revis (hamstring), limited on Thursday and Friday; linebacker Jamaal Westerman (ankle), limited on Thursday and Friday; running back John Connor (neck), full participation on Thursday and Friday; linebacker Calvin Pace (foot), full participation on Thursday and Friday; linebacker Jason Taylor (elbow), full participation on Thursday and Friday; guard Brandon Moore (hamstring), was added to the report and limited on Friday.

Vikings: Cornerback Chris Cook did not participate on Thursday or Friday due to a torn meniscus in his left knee and is out as a result; quarterback Brett Favre was limited on Friday (ankle/right elbow) and though there’s concern over the tendinitis in his right elbow, the guy’s never missed a game so you figure it out. Tackle Bryant McKinnie (finger) had full participation on Thursday and Friday and will play. Tight end Visanth(3) Shiancoe (hamstring) was limited on Thursday and Friday as was center John Sullivan (calf).

12.7
The average points per game the Vikings defense is allowing this year, second lowest in the league.

TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was dismayed to learn of the Randy Moss trade.

Moss has been a Cowboy killer since his rookie season because on draft day, Jones promised Randy the Cowboys would take him with the 8th overall pick but then let him slide.

Good for us; sucks to be the Cowboys. Especially next week when we host them at the Mall of America Field at the Metrodome.

Though Jones no doubt realized his mistake after Randy’s torching of Tampa Bay, it’s taken him this long to articulate how sorry he actually is.

“I apologize, I apologize, I apologize,” he told ESPNDallas.com.
