You gotta like Joe Webb‘s confidence.
The Pioneer Press‘ Bob Sansevere quotes the rookie quarterback saying at this point in his career, he’s half as good as Michael Vick.
If that’s true, then we got our franchise quarterback right here.
“Once I get that passing down, I’ll be all right,” he said.
True dat, my man; true dat.
WITH FRIEND LIKE THESE
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid made it clear to reporters during his media conference call that Brad Childress has a job in Philadelphia if he wants it, as the Star Tribune‘s Mark Craig reports.
Childress, of course, was the offensive coordinator for the Eagles before landing the Vikings head coaching gig and he has been a longtime friend of Reid, so Reid’s comments were hardly surprising.
Reid’s response to a question of whether or not he’d recommend the Vikings keep Leslie Frazier as head coach, Craig relays:
“I with I had that kind of clout. That’s not my decision to make, but I will say this: If I was an owner, which I’m not, but if I was, I would hire Leslie Frazier. He’s a phenomenal person. You never have to worry about him as a person. His players respect him, and he’s a heck of a football coach.”
Frazier might not want to tout that particular endorsement, especially if Reid had recommended Childress to the Vikings before him.
THE BENEFITS OF CELEBRITY
We most often see professional athletes using their celebrity for personal gain–endorsements, publicity, etc.–but there’s a flip side to the benefits of celebrity that can be put to use on behalf of someone other than the athlete. Brett Favre‘s visit to 5-year old fan, Anderson Butzine, who has terminal brain cancer, is an example. In case you haven’t seen it yet, this video of Favre’s visit was uploaded by the Butzine family. THE DEETS
The Vikings travel to Philadelphia and Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday to play the Philadelphia Eagles. Kickoff is at 7:20 PM CST and the game will be broadcast on NBC nationally and KARE 11 TV locally.
Your play-by-play guy will be Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth will be your analyst with Andrea Kramer serving as the sideline “reporter.”
The radio broadcast is on KFAN-AM 1130/KTLK 100.3-FM locally with your usual crew of play-by-play guy Paul Allen, analyst Pete Bercich and sideline reporter Greg Coleman. Pre-game shows starts at 5:30 PM CST.
WALKING WOUNDED
Vikings: Quarterback Brett Favre (concussion/neck/right shoulder), running back Adrian Peterson (knee) and safeties Tyrell Johnson (knee) and Madieu Williams (concussion) did not practice Wednesday. Cornerback Frank Walker (hamstring) was limited and safety Jamarca Sanford (concussion) participated fully.
Eagles: Cornerback Jorrick Calvin (back), Linebacker Keenan Clayton (hamstring), running back Jerome Harrison (not injury related) and defensive tackle Mike Patterson (knee) did not practice Wednesday. Linebacker Stewart Bradley has been declared out for Sunday night’s game.
Wide receiver Jason Avant (concussion), gaurd Nick Cole (knee), linebacker Moise Fokou (wrist), tight end Clay Harbor (abdomen), guard Todd Herremans (hip), wide receiver DeSean Jackson (foot) and offensive tackle Winston Justice (knee) participated.
ROSTER MOVES
Meet Rhett Bomar: The Vikings signed quarterback Rhett Bomar from the New York Giants’ practice squad. He will wear number 3.
The Giants chose Bomar with the 151st overall pick (round 5, pick 15) in the 2009 draft. The 6’2″, 225 lbs. quarterback has not thrown a pass in an NFL game. Here’s his NFL.com profile.
In college, Bomar was dismissed from the Oklahoma Sooners team in 2006 after it was reported that he was paid for work he didn’t actually perform, a violation of NCCA rules. As a result, he finished his college career with Sam Houston State.
The incident might also explain the profusion of YouTube videos featuring Bomar getting nailed. Seems like he inspires a bit of antagonism.

According to the Star Tribune‘s Judd Zulgad, the Vikings waived quarterback R.J. Archer and signed cornerback DeAndre Wright to the Vikings practice squad.
The 5’11”, 198 lbs. Wright was cut by the Vikings during training camp this year. He was originally drafted in the 6th round of the 2009 draft (pick 200) by the New York Giants. He also spent time with the Lions and the Browns. He has not played in a regular season game.
