Daily Chat: Wildcat

The number of turnovers the Dolphins have committed in 178 attempts with Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown taking the snap from center, according to the Pioneer PressJeremy Fowler.

The Dolphins, of course, are the team that popularized the Wildcat formation. The formation is dangerous because 1) it gives the offense a lot of options and therefore a lot of flexibility and 2) it gives defenses a lot to consider and keep track of.

Who is going to get the ball and what are they going to do with it, is the big mystery.

The offense depends, as Fowler points out in his article, on whoever takes the snap being able to read defenses effectively and then make sound decisions once they have the ball.

As the statistic noted above would seem to indicate, Ronnie Brown can do both.

LOCAL INTELLIGENCE
Speaking of the Pioneer Press‘ new Vikings beat reporter Jeremy Fowler…you might want to keep a close eye on his stuff leading up to the game.

The PiPress got Fowler from the Orlando Sentinel and though he covered college football there, you’ve got to assume he’s got better knowledge of the Dolphins than our other beat reporters here.

And, as MinnPost‘s David Brauer points out: He’s not afraid of posing a tough question or two.

FRU FRU??
The Star Tribune‘s Chip Scoggins reports that newly-acquired wide receiver Greg Camarillo had so little time after he was traded to the Vikings that he had little time to pack…his clothes…his fiancĂ©e…even his dog.

“My apartment won’t let me,” Scoggins quotes Camarillo. “Plus, I don’t know if he could take the cold, either.”

Can’t take the cold? Just what kind of dog is this??

$200,000
The amount the Vikings paid kicker Rhys Lloyd to re-sign with the Carolina Panthers.

OUT
Dolphins rookie defensive end Jared Odrick will not play against the Vikings due to a slight fibula fracture, according to Pro Football Talk.

The Dolphins also reportedly worked out linebacker Adalius Thomas yesterday. It’d suck if they signed Thomas before Sunday.

OPPOSITION RESEARCH
Dolphins: Video highlights of the Dolphins 15-10 win over the Buffalo Bills last Sunday: [Watch.]

Jets: The New York Jets lost nose tackle Kris Jenkins for the season with a torn ACL, which obviously suck for him and them but is good for us because the Jets defense is tuuuuuuuuuuf.

NFC NORTH OPP RESEARCH
Bears: The Vikings aren’t the only ones thin at receiver. The Bears tried out five receivers yesterday AND ended linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer‘s season by putting him on Injured Reserve due to a concussion.

Lions: The Detroit Lions will be without their franchise quarterback, Matthew Stafford when they play the Vikings, due to a shoulder injury. Former Viking, Shaun Hill, who looked positively horrid on Sunday after he took over for Stafford, will start in Stafford’s stead. The Lions also put rookie cornerback Aaron Berry on injured reserve and signed former Bears cornerback Nathan Vasher to replace him.

Sucks to be the Lions, doesn’t it? First they lose their franchise quarterback to yet another injury and then they are robbed of a last second victory due to stupid rules.

But that’s what happens to teams that are consistently bad; they don’t get the breaks.

Packers: The Packers lost starting running back Ryan Grant for the season with a torn ankle ligament. The team also put defensive lineman Justin Harrell on season-ending injured reserve due to a knee injury.
