The score remined tied until the fourth quarter when the Cowboys pulled ahead with a 24-yard Toni Fritsch field goal.
The Vikings then pulled ahead when running back Brent McClanahan scored on a one-yard run.
But with 24 seconds left in the game and trailing by three points, Dallas quarterback Roger Staubach threw what he later called a “hail mary” pass to wide receiver Drew Pearson for a touchdown.
Pearson illegally pushed off of Vikings cornerback Nate Wright on the Hail Mary pass from Dallas quarterback Roger Staubach to rob the Vikings of a Super Bowl berth.
In addition to the heartbreak of being cheated out of another Super Bowl appearance, quarterback Fran Tarkenton learned after the game that his father had died of a heart attack while watching in Georgia.
The 1975 Vikings squad was the best of that era.
