Viking’s Tall Red Zone Targets

Last year, toward the end of pre-season, I was all about Vikings Richard Angulo: A six foot eight, 263 pound tight end that is a punishing blocker who has soft hands and who looks like he might have some grace on pass routes. But Angulo suffered a season-ending injury during the final pre-season game last year against Seattle on a simple little pass to the flat and that was that.

During the off-season, needing my football fix, I turned to NFL Europe games on the NFL Network and found the Frankfurt Galaxy and Viking WR Aaron Hosak, a six foot five, 210 pound receiver who could catch in a crowd.

These two guys helped to soothe the sting of the Randy Moss trade.

So, I’ve been fantasizing about a red zone offense that could include Kleinsasser at fullback, Wiggins and Angulo at TE, the six foot three Marcus Robinson and Hosak or Nate Burleson with his ridiculous leaping ability. With that personnel, Culpepper has got an embarassment of riches in tall targets and a lot of options to choose from.

But that’s why it’s a fantasy, isn’t it? The reality is that Hosak is injured and not in training camp. Angulo has been injured but might return next week. And now Troy Williamson has injured his foot.

And, damn, Smoot hurt his knee, like, a day after finally recovering from the neck injury that has kept him out of all of camp thus far. Could we please stay healthy.
